The ‘Nitty Gritty’ Info
Let’s demystify the logistics — this page describes the therapy process, scheduling, fees, and payment.
I don’t maintain a wait list, which often allows me to schedule a new client within 2-3 weeks.
The Therapy Process
Initial Consultation
This 20-minute no cost appointment is an opportunity for a potential client to describe why they reached out and also learn about me. During the meeting we identify if I can be helpful to you and a 'good fit.'
Out of respect for your time, we’ll make sure the logistics work before the consultation. After you book an Initial Consultation, you’ll receive an email with my current availability and you’ll look over my policy for scheduling, fees, and payment.
Before the First Session
You’ll get information and provide information (intake form, consent, and whole health screenings). We’ll also set up a standing appointment time. This advance work jump starts the therapy.
During your Initial Sessions
We develop a shared understanding of your pain points and hopes. We then co-create a plan to address your current issues and goals.
Getting in a Rhythm
Most clients meet with me weekly for 55-minutes. Through conversation and inquiry, you’ll experience ‘ah ha’ moments as we consider why certain thoughts and feelings are emerging (or repeating). Through practice outside our sessions, you apply 'ah ha's' from session in your daily life. The number of weekly sessions and months of treatment depends on each person's current issues and treatment goals. Clients often see symptoms gradually reduce over 6 months, with continued improvement as their learning and practice continues.
Wrapping Up
As we address the issue that prompted you to seek therapy, there will come a point when you’ve achieved your initial goals. Hurray! Yet ending therapy can sometimes feel uncertain. While recognizing your progress, we also address those concerns, so you’re ready to fly solo.
Hours & Booking
As you get started as a client, you’ll set up a standing day and time for your session.
A range of appointment times are offered (early morning, daytime, and after work/school) to accommodate busy schedules.
Practice Hours: Tue–Thu from 7am–6pm
Let’s meet where YOU are!
I offer secure online therapy session via video Zoom.
Virtual therapy provides an accessible way to connect. It provides continuity and encourages more consistency in treatment — you engage in therapy from the comfort of your own home, in a private space by your work, or even a dorm room. The practice is well-equipped to offer confidential virtual sessions, maintaining the same level of professionalism, support, and effectiveness as in-person sessions.
Option 1: You Submit Claims Directly to Your Insurer
You use Thrizer only as a payment app. Your’re charged for the session and can view those charges on the Thrizer app.
Each month Shannon Mong sends you a detailed statement (‘super bill’) showing the prior month’s services and payments. You choose whether to directly submit this to your insurer to request reimbursement of their portion of your session cost.
The therapist pays the payment processing fee and you don’t (yep, no charge from Thrizer).
Did you know your insurance benefits can reduce your out-of-pocket cost for therapy?
Most clients have an ‘out-of-network’ insurance benefit and receive some reimbursment from their carrier for our sessions. I can help you check your benefits so you know what to expect.
I also see clients from Pacific Source in Oregon, with which I’m ‘in network’.
Option 2: Make Payments and Thrizer Submits Claims
Choose ‘OON Pay’ and you’re charged for the session and Thrizer then handles the out-of-network process automatically for you. Thrizer will submit and manage claims on your behalf. Reimbursements from your insurer are sent directly to your bank account.
As of 8/1/2025 the processing fee for this ‘Out-of-Network Pay’ plan is 1% of the therapist’s full fee. (For example, for a $235 session fee, Thrizer’s fee to submit and manage the claim is $2.35)
Option 3: Skip the wait for Reimbursement
With the ‘Thrizer Pay’ plan once your deductible is met you then pay just your co-insurance for a session (similar to an in-network copay). Thrizer then floats the rest of your session fee and will wait to be reimbursed by your insurer.
As of 8/1/2025 the processing fee for the Thrizer Pay plan is 5% of the therapist’s full fee. (For example, for a $235 session fee, after your deductible is met Thrizer’s fee to submit, manage, and await reimbursement for your session is $11.75)
Investing in Therapy
I understand therapy is a substantial investment in yourself. It’s an investment of your time and your money. So here’s a transparent view on how it works — what you’ll pay, how you’ll pay, and how to find out whether your insurance will pay some of that back to you.
Therapist Fees
Initial Consultation: $0 (20 minutes)
Individual sessions: $235 (55 minutes)
Couple sessions: $280 (55 minutes)
Parenting Consultation: $235 (55 minutes
Out-of-Network Client? — Choose Your Payment Approach!
Clients with ‘out-of-network’ coverage use the Thrizer app to automatically pay the therapist after each session. The practice partners with Thrizer, a HIPPA-compliant payment app that helps therapy goers navigate ‘out-of-network’ insurance and make therapy more accessible.
Before therapy starts you’ll choose a Thrizer payment approach that works best for you. Below is an overview of three Thrizer payment approaches.

Learn about Your Out-of-Network Benefits
For no charge, Thrizer will verify your out-of-network benefits, review your ‘deductible’ and ‘out-of-pocket’ costs, and learn how much your co-insurance for sessions would be.
